KFC Double Down Sandwich?
By PpcJen
Heart Attack in the Making?
Here's how it works: Take a chicken sandwich, and replace the bun with two pieces of fried chicken breast, add some bacon, and two slices of cheese. What have you got? KFC's new Double Down sandwich.
I'm serious. They're selling this in some of their stores!

America is in the middle of an obesity epidemic, and this is KFC's answer to it? KFC is now offering a sandwich made of chicken, bacon, and cheese in between two slabs of fried chicken. Yes - I'll say it again - the fried chicken REPLACES the bun!
At first, I didn't believe it. I was sitting here, working at home, minding my own business, when a friend sent me this link from FoodGeekery. I thought this was a hoax. Alas, this is no hoax. It is very true. Calls to KFC headquarters have confirmed it. They are selling this massive dose of fat and calories as the "KFC Double Down" sandwich.
KFC has hit the news several times this year with new product offerings. This one is at the opposite end of the "healthy" scale, if you ask me. Their last new product was a pretty decent attempt at grilled chicken. Low calorie, low fat, tasty chicken breast. Mmmmm. But I am not so sure about this option. In fact, it's a little scary if you ask me.

How many grams of fat?
Obviously, KFC is entitled to test the market however they want. But (last time I checked) there is no mention of this mystery sandwich on the KFC site. The media is begging for nutritional information (why??), and a good quality Double Down commercial is impossible to find (below a TV ad in a very poor quality from YouTube – however good enough to shed light on KFC’s new campaign). According to sources, the Double Down is only sold in Rhode Island, and Nebraska.
Here are the nutritional values for the magic sandwich (provided by KFC): Calories: 590; Calories from fat: 280; Total fat: 31g; Saturated fat: 10g; Trans fat: 0g; and Cholesterol: 190mg.
This is about the same as THREE Big Macs put together.
“KFC public relations rep Rick Maynard has come forward with some nutritional information estimates for the Double Down which he says run contrary to what we’ve reported. Maynard says the firm wouldn’t normally do a full nutritional run on a product unless they decided to roll out a product nationally, but he has volunteered estimated figures for the information of the eating public.” – Vancouver Sun’s Chris Parry reports.
Maybe they will give us the option of grilled chicken fillets instead of fried?
Comments
If you get this grilled instead of fried it's only 3g of carbs which is better than pretty much everything else on the menu that they offer other than regular grilled chicken.
The buns on the sandwiches at fast food restaurants are the worst part for you because that is where they stuff all the HFCS. Whenever I get fast food I throw them away anyway so this is a pretty good idea in my opinion. Haha.
Anyway, I've been eating low carb and lifting weights for a few months now for optimized fat loss and muscle gain. If you're eating a low carb ketogenic diet rich on vegetables, fats and protein, calories don't matter, fat doesn't matter, and dietary cholesterol doesn't matter for anyone anyway.
May not be ideal for calorie counters who never exercise but it's perfect for people like me. That said, I bet it's way more expensive than it's worth.
Thank you Daniel R Finley
The masses of individuals out there are clamoring that KFC is going out to make the obesity epidemic even worse with this sandwich.
While true to some extent because the high sodium can lead to long term complications such as hypertension and stroke, the positive aspects of a sauceless, grilled version of this sandwich is that it fully takes advantage of the thermic effect of proteins.
It's too bad the masses of individuals who never took a science course still rely on STARVING oneself to lose weight (mostly lean muscle mass since the body will eventually have to mobilize amino acids from the muscle to drive into gluconeogenesis)
That's the reason why most seemingly fit women with clothes on will actually have quite a high body fat % underneath and be quite flabby underneath.
Wow. How ignorant is this rant? One glance at their site shows they will be offering this with GRILLED CHICKEN. Making this entire "article" a fucking joke.
Not to mention that it's WRONG because a Big Mac has comparable nutritional content.
What crack are you smoking? Just like the previous poster said this sandwich has about the same nutritional content as a SINGLE big mac. Sure the sandwich may look obscene but at least its not pretending to be healthy, like stupid salads with dressing from McDonalds (or any other fast food place)
It's always good to grasp your nutrition "facts" from thin air. I think folks that lie on the Web should lose their access.
Say dumb ass people are fat cause they're lazy if you don't want to get fat don't eat out get your lazy ass up and cook something healthy its not the fast foods companies problem your lazy and don't exercise
Even the fast food places that seem somewhat healthy are completely off the charts. Check out how terrible a standard burrito is from a certain popular chain when you get a chance ... amazing
It's not 3 times a big mac. A big mac is 540 calories and 29 grams of fat. This is only 590 calories and 31 grams of fat.

A study by a Vancouver newspaper revealed - surprise(!) - KFC "slightly underestimated" the calorie count. This sandwich actually has a whopping 1220 calories, not to mention excessive amounts of cholesterol, saturated fats and all the other good stuff one needs to gain 10lbs a week and have a heart attack before reaching 30 years of age.
Only in America, baby!
Hey KFC, well done!
Just one more piece of advice: Set up a fund for legal fees in the future. Those lawsuits and heart surgery bills might cut into your profits big time otherwise ...
